The Isle of Skye is an iconic tourist destination attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year – with many passing through our area. Camping Skye provides those in motorhomes, campervans and tents with the perfect place to pitch, whilst also benefiting our local community.
The site opened in 2018 and is managed by our trading arm, Strath Leisure. All profits are reinvested to support community projects. A new events space adjacent to the site is opening in 2023. Read our press release about the events space.

The campsite is built on part of the land we acquired through the purchase of our Community Woodland. Community consultation at that time identified a campsite and as a key priority, due to its potential to provide jobs, support community projects, alleviate tourism pressures and encourage Skye visitors to spend time and money in our local area.
Research on the potential for the site was carried out through the local community, local businesses, surveys, campsite visits, speaking to campsite operators, discussions with campers and web-based research.
After securing funding from The National Lottery Community Fund and Highlands and Islands Enterprise the first shovel broke the ground on site in the summer of 2016. Contractors worked hard against the Skye weather and Camping Skye opened its gates in June 2018.
The campsite has been a great success and generally operates at full capacity during the visitor season. It provides full-time year-round employment for two people and seasonal employment for another three people.
The Skye Events Space will provide additional ‘overflow’ accommodation for campervans and motorhomes when not in use for events.
