Campsite and Event Space

Having purchased the Broadford Community Woodland in October 2011 extensive consultation and research, by Broadford and Strath Community Company, identified a campsite and events space as potential developments. After the consultation period, it was felt that these developments would meet the needs of the community and deliver the greatest community benefit.

The campsite will see an increase in business for local suppliers, increased employment opportunities, an improved infrastructure in the village, new education and training opportunities. We believe there will be economic benefits across Skye.

Research on the potential for the site was done through the local community, local businesses, user surveys, campsite visits, speaking to campsite operators, discussions with campers and web based research.

The campsite will have 75 pitches. A mixture of tents, caravans, and campervans.

Camping pitches will be arranged in terraces rising up the site offering views across Strath and Beinn na Caillich., Camp cooking sites and picnic table will be provided. with. Vehicle pitches will blend into the regenerating woodland, each with its own private picnic area and electric hook-up.

Low-impact, energy-efficient, timber-clad buildings will provide 4-star quality facilities, including:

  • Toilets
  • Showers
  • Drying room
  • Wash-up
  • Tourist information
  • Mobile phone charging
  • Recycling & Composting area
  • Chemical toilet and grey water waste disposal
  • Water supply.

The camping terraces will create an intimate events space that can be used for outdoor concerts, and theatre. It will also be ideal for pitching a marquee for weddings and parties.
