Last Saturday, 19 September, we were delighted to welcome the President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, to the Growers Hub. The visit was part of as part of her 4 day official visit to Scotland. The President was accompanied by her husband Brian McEnery and representatives of the Irish Embassy, Udaras na Gaeltachta, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and The Highland Council.
The President spent about one and a half hours touring our projects and meeting volunteers, staff and participants. She declared that her visit to BSCC gave her ‘hope’.
Youngsters from Corry Capers outdoor learning gave President Connolly a tour of their forest, and the Flourish Together team shared some of their produce and gave the President a dried flower posy to take back to Ireland. The President also chatted with Men’s Shed members and visited our community campsite.
The visit was very special and we would like to thank everyone who braved the wet weather and came along to share their community knowledge.
