Zero Waste Events in Skye and Raasay, 11 & 12 May

The Highland Community Waste Partnership are teaming up with Zero Waste Scotland for a stimulating programme of events on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 May.

Lunch with Zero Waste Scotland, Raasay, 11 May, 1 – 3pm:  All welcome for this open event from at Raasay Community Hall. Come along for free soup & sandwiches and some home baking using local produce from Raasay’s Walled Garden. There will be an open chat about general waste in the community and possible solutions, with Miriam from Zero Waste Scotland. See the event on Facebook.

Business Brunch, Broadford, 12 May, 11am – 12.00:  A free Business Brunch for local businesses will take place at the Hebridean Inn, Broadford. Find out  about the Circular Economy with a particular emphasis on the problems of dealing with cardboard waste on the island.

Reusing and Craft Afternoon Tea, Sleat, 12 May, 2 – 4pm: Join us at An Crùbh for and afternoon with local artist Emma Siedle-Collins. We will be making produce bags for your loose vegetables and fruit shop, from any scrap textiles brought from home and from muslin that will be provided. Miriam from Zero Waste Scotland will be introducing the workshop and doing a question-and-answer session about reducing single use plastic in the home. See the event on Facebook.

‘Landfill Harmonic’ film, Sleat, 12 May, 7pm: Later at An Crùbh join ClubFilm and the Highland Community Waste Partnership for a screening of the film ‘Landfill Harmonic’.   There will be a Q&A after the film with Miriam and Janet Ullman from the Highland Community Waste Partnership on how we can reduce our waste as well as recycle and reuse. You can get your ticket on the night: Adults £5; Underwaged/Under 30/Children £3. Broadford and Strath Community Company is one of the eight community groups leading the Highland Community Waste Partnership, which is working to reduce waste in our communities by changing the way that we all buy, use and dispose of things.
