Have your say on our new woodland!
Broadford Village Hall, Thursday 30 April. Drop in from 5pm, Presentations and discussion 6 – 7.30pm. Free refreshments.
Broadford & Strath Community Company has just completed the purchase of Broadford North Wood on behalf of the local community. The 12.4 hectare forestry plantation is situated in a prominent position overlooking Broadford Bay.
The new acquisition expands our current Broadford Community Woodland and opens up exciting new opportunities. We would like to transform the site from inaccessible monoculture plantation to nature-friendly mixed woodland that will support community wellbeing, enterprise and learning. Proposals include restructuring the forest to support native species, developing volunteering and learning programmes, creating new paths to enable access for all, and developing small-scale woodland enterprises to support the long-term sustainability of the woodland.
Please join us at the consultation event to:
- Find out more about the woodland.
- Hear from other community woodland groups.
- Have your say on management proposals.
- Find out how to get involved.
We will be joined by guests from Applecross Community Woodland and Tormore Forest, who will share their experiences of developing and managing community woodlands, and forestry consultant Bruce Taylor from Brambletree Management.
The purchase of the woodland has been made possible through funds from the Scottish Land Fund and Highlands & Islands Enterprise. This event is supported by the Highlands & Islands Climate Hub Community Climate Action Fund. Broadford & Strath Community Company have supported other acquisition costs.
