Skye Cycle Way update February 2025

Feb 10, 2025

An update on some further developments on this project.

As noted in our January update our current focus is to prioritise the delivery of Phase 1, Kyleakin to Ashaig.

To this end, we have been invited to apply to Transport Scotland’s Active Travel Infrastructure Fund (ATIF Tier 2 Design Fund) to support the Detailed Design for this section of the path. The application is being submitted on our behalf by HITRANS and we hope to know the outcome by April. If the bid is successful HITRANS will oversee the project supported by BSCC as community representative.

The link between Skulamus and Harrapool will be the next priority once Phase 1 is progressed to the next stage.

In parallel, we have taken the decision to withdraw our planning application for Phase 2 (Committee Road section). This is because the planners require further detailed surveys (e.g. ground conditions), which will incur significant cost, and our preference is to focus investment on Phase 1 at this stage. We will review the status of this section as we progress Phase 1.

We would like to thank the many hundreds of people who have contributed to the project to date – through attending meetings, contributing to consultations, and volunteering time. We look forward to working with everyone as we progress through the next stages and thank you for your support.

Please follow our Facebook page and continue to check these news pages for further updates. If you have a specific query you can contact the volunteer working group at: scw@broadfordandstrath.org.
